Another thing I did recently that really helped the sound was removing the spikes on the speaker stands which lowered the stack about an inch and I filled the stands with alternating sand and lead shot. The Harman Kardon Citation Eleven I had needs to be restored as it recently developed a hum, so I am temporarily using an Audio Source Pre One preamp. Currently, I have temporary compensation by turning down the highs and mids on my preamp a couple of detents (10 o'clock). I am going to build my own BSC and then pass the loaner on to others interested in trying it out. I expect the BSC circuit I am getting from Pete B will help a lot. If you stand in the back corner of the room the bass is thunderous. The bass is not what one would expect, but this is because of the dominance of the mids and high as the speakers are out from the walls per Cardas placement. Thanks! They sound pretty damn good! But of course there are some issues in a 12'x15' room. How did you wire them? (+ to + OR + to -)Īny feedback would be greatly appreciated. Side by side, on top with woofers together, or tweeter's together?Ĭan you describe the sound of your stacked Advents? (I know that's always tough and subjective but I'm curious) Now which way is the correct way to connect Double Advent's, as described in The Absolute Sound review? See the photo of the Amati's, look at the lower right corner with their grille cloths removed. The the topic of stacking Advents or Double Advents is not carved in stone yet. Yeah, I know.real smart, huh? The 4002's and 1's use the same woofer but have different tweeters. However, I think I blew the resistor hooking up my laptop to the amp with the volume turned up. It kept the tweeter from working until I replaced the resistor. These are the fronts on my 5.1 system and have been hooked up since October 2007 with no ill effects, except that I did fry a resistor in 1 of the crossovers of the 1's recently. I'm not sure what they're rated at with a 4 ohm impedance, but probably somewhere around 120 wpc. I also have a pair of Advent 4002's and Advent/1's wired in parrallel off a Yamaha RX-V800, rated at 100w RMS into 8 ohms. The amp is 33 years old and I've had the Advents since 1976 and I've never clipped them or damaged the speakers. It's rated at 60w RMS per channel into 8 ohms and 70w RMS into 4 ohms. I loaned my speakers to someone with a smaller amp and they came back with blown resistors.įor what it's worth, I have 2 pairs of original Large Advents wired in parrallel, running off a Pioneer SA-9100 integrated amp. If the amp clips, the harmonics will likely burn up the 3 ohm 5 watt resistors in the older Advent crossovers. Your 80 watt amp may be a little inadequate. I'm using a Hafler DH220 that is rated at 115 watts into 8 ohms and probably does over 200 watts into 4 ohms. If you put the two sets in parallel, they will present 4, maybe 3 ohms to the amplifier. I could hear the difference and eventually went with matched woofers and tweeters. That being said, I had one pair of each stacked for a while and they sounded OK, but they are not matched. The tweeters and the crossovers are very different. I have one pair of new lge advents bullnose walnut and have just found another pair of original lge advents walnut with masonite are these two compatable for stacking ? or should i hold out for a pair of new lge, my tendency is to grab them, they have been refoamed already, the guy is asking 200, i paid 100 for the new ones refoamed.i live on vancouver island, so the likelyhood of finding another mint pair of new lge in walnut is and will my yamaha rx 596 80rms min.
